Change your workspace subdomain

Why change your workspace subdomain

Every workspace gets a default address like yourteam.essential.support, chosen when you signed up. If that slug no longer fits — a rename, a typo, or you just want it to match your company name more closely — you can change it yourself, with live availability checking before you commit.

Change your subdomain

  1. Click the gear icon in the top bar to open Settings.
  2. In the left-hand navigation, click Branding, then click the Custom domain sub-tab.
  3. If you don’t currently have a custom domain connected, a Workspace subdomain section appears at the top of the page, above the custom-domain tools. (If you do have a custom domain connected, this section is hidden — see the note below.)
  4. The field shows your current slug, with “.essential.support” fixed to its right as a suffix.
  5. Type your new slug. As you type, only lowercase letters, numbers, and hyphens are kept — anything else you type is stripped automatically — up to a maximum of 63 characters.
  6. About 400ms after you stop typing, availability is checked live and reported just below the field: “Checking availability…” while the check runs, then either “<newslug>.essential.support is available” with a checkmark, or an inline error such as “That subdomain is already taken.”
  7. Read the warning shown on the page before saving: your current address stops working immediately and becomes available for anyone else to claim; any existing links to it — notification emails, the embedded widget, and SSO — will break.
  8. Once the field reports “available” and your typed slug differs from your current one, Save subdomain becomes clickable. Click it.
  9. A confirmation reads “Subdomain changed. Taking you to <newhost> to sign in again…”, and after about 2 seconds your browser is redirected to the new address automatically.
  10. Sign in again at the new address. Sessions are tied to the exact host you’re on, so your previous session doesn’t carry over to the new one.
